| Beware The $299 Scam
Figuring out the Medicare Part D plan is tough enough. But then the scam artists pick up the phone and stir up more trouble. Seniors and people with disabilities must be on high alert for scammers who are calling and requiring a $299 upfront payment to sign up for a prescription drug plan. The Michigan Office of Financial and Insurance Services warned consumers earlier this month to watch out for phony drug plans related to Medicare Part D. .

Chase Card Services Announces ChaseHealthAdvance financing options and ...
WILMINGTON, Del. - Chase Card Services, a division of JPMorgan Chase & Co. [NYSE: JPM], announced today that it has finalized the acquisition of Unicorn Financial Services, a leading patient financing company. The combined company officially launches its expanded set of patient financing products today as ChaseHealthAdvance financing options. Rising medical and dental costs have created a need for new and adaptive healthcare financing options. In addition, the demand for elective procedures ranging from dental, vision correction and cosmetic procedures to veterinary care for pets, is increasing at a rapid rate. The knowledge base that Chase has built in providing consumer credit to millions of credit card holders prompted Chase to develop ChaseHealthAdvance. Chavez, China, and the coming startup squeeze
Rape and pillage" would be fair descriptors of the economic effects of OPEC's publicly stated acquiescence over today's new oil prices. Oil cost around $14 per barrel a decade ago, but is hovering around the $100 mark now. Having set the devil of overpricing in motion, he then re-nationalized PdVSA at home, followed by nearly all the oil fields in Venezuela. When this wasn't aggravation enough to keep prices high, he threatened to cut off all oil supplies to either the U.S. or Exxon earlier this month. China, meanwhile, simultaneously has been on a path to acquire the greatest future oil volume possible from OPEC providers through forward contracts -- done very quietly -- with the similar result of raising futures prices, and then spot prices, of oil. Higher oil prices have a double-negative effect upon healthy Western economies: They cause gross inflation, and they slow down the economy, even as they are masked as increased GDP -- usually a good thing (oops).

'My Favorite Dog': Dueling Rhymers
EWU isn't a private religious school where a porn star giving a chat would be wildy inapproriate. It's a public institution that represents a diverse political and religious base. America is great because Mel Gibson can make Passion of the Christ and Ron Jeremy can make porn. It's called freedom. I am willing to fight to the end to defend Jeremy's free speech rights even though I find him vile and disgusting. The Edge P.S. I find it outrageous that Passion of the Christ wasn't even nominated for the best picture award. It's political payback from a hypocritical group that thinks it's smarter than the rest of us. For shame Oscar, for shame. .
Hard times keep pawnshops busy
Locally At the Kendallville Pawn Shop in downtown Kendallville, manager Kenny Gohn said he has seen increased business as more people who need money come in. And with it being tax season, Gohn said many people are coming in to spend their refunds."I have hardly any TVs here right now," Gohn said Thursday. Victor Amato, district manager for Lev's Pawn Shop, with two locations in Fort Wayne, said business is growing, but it has grown steadily the past three to five years. But Amato said the slowing economy is not the only factor in the pawnshop's growth. With the rapid increase in the value of gold, Lev's is seeing a large increase in pawned jewelry, especially gold. Amato also said customers are coming to Lev's to buy high-definition TVs and video-game systems with their tax refunds. About 75 percent of people who pawn items at Lev's get their items back, Amati said.
